Affordability Issues
01
Housing for YOU
Use existing federal tools to help local residents afford homes in Hawaii by capping predatory investor buying, expanding down payment assistance, recalibrating tax code to give owner occupants same benefits as investors, and unlocking suitable federal land for local homes.
02
Healthcare without the hidden bill
There are people avoiding doctors and dentists because even with insurance, visits can cost too much. We can expand federally funded community health centers across Hawaii that focus on care rather than copays.
Require health providers to post prices so patients know costs in advance and can shop around.
03
Lowering vehicle registration cost for Hawaii residents
Require military personnel stationed in Hawaii to pay the standard vehicle registration fee. Additional revenue to be used to reduce registration fees for Hawaii residents.
04
Lowering costs at the pump
Pass tariff revenue back to consumers at the pump by reducing the federal gas tax and providing incentives for states that lower their own fuel taxes.
05
The Cost of Childcare
Increase the child tax credit to provide greater tax relief for families.
Expand existing federal childcare assistance so more families can receive direct help with childcare costs.
06
Food Security
Restore canceled USDA grants that were designated to provide millions of dollars towards food production in Hawaii including planting food forests, managing invasive species, and providing farmers with direct assistance.
07
Electricity costs
Electric bills keep going up, while outages and rolling blackouts have become common. Clean energy matters, but energy policy cannot move faster than people's ability to pay their bills. Pursue a balanced federal energy approach that maintains reliable, affordable power in Hawaii.
08
Safe communities
Temporary deployment of National Guard units to support local law enforcement in high crime areas identified by crime data and local requests, focused on restoring public safety.
09
Making car insurance optional
Leverage federal position to pass state policy allowing residents to opt out of mandatory car insurance if they choose, while those who prefer coverage can pay a premium for the added protection.
10
Air Travel Aid
Increase the availability of DoD Space-Available flights for service members, retirees, and their families on inter-island routes during peak travel periods to provide more dependable inter-island access for military families and ease demand on commercial flights to the benefit of kama'aina and visitors.
